12th September 2015
A wet start to our day in Auch.  Which improved for most of the day.  The magnificent cathedral of St Marie d'Auch, was very special.

Straight for a hot chocolate in a medieval café, complete with armoury and chandeliers.

We found a cavalier guarding the stairs to the upper city.

A great view from across the river Gers.

Exploring the alley ways around the city. Involving stairs and steep inclines

The civic square was beautifully laid out.

In the afternoon we headed north on the D148 to check out some villages, the one that interested us most was Lavardens.  A traffic jam greeted us as nuptials were just completed in the church here and the place was full of guests trying to negotiate the hairpin bend to leave the scene.  We found a little creperie still open, with some more revellers from the wedding, where we enjoyed some crepes and hot chocolates.

The village has very charming little streets.  Apart from the old church it also had boasted a 17th century chateau in need of repair.
