.20th September 2015 Pau

Another interesting and beautiful day in this city.  Not having any expectations it has been full of beautiful things. Yesterday we found that this was Bernadotte's birthplace.  Today after our walk along the river and canal, we entered the chateau through the tower, once also a Moulin (mill), up 4 flights.  Patiently in the queue, we found on entering that this was also free, as this weekend there was a lot of activity and so on that was put on for the public to enjoy.  At St Jacques church we were able to climb up the bell tower to where the organ is and see a birds eye view of the church.  At another venue we found an exhibition of the art of making stain glass windows, set up by a Jules-Pierre Maumejean at the beginning of last century to restore old churches and also make new ones.  His work and teaching and setting up schools and ateliers in various location around the world.  Including  Asia, Cuba and north and south American cities such as Chicago and New York.  Apparently once a year on this weekend in September all these facilities open to the public to share and celebrate.

Music in the streets!

Along the river.

Up the tower and along the garden to the chateau.

The biggest table we've seen, surrounded by beautiful tapestries.

One of the tapestries.

On level with the organ, the view of St Jacques inside.

Another of the musicians

Sainte Cecile glass window restored by M Maumejean's team.

A vantage view of Pic du Midi, even from this far south. 120KM away.
